TIPA Award as the "Best D-SLR Entry Level" digital camera for 2009
Clearly impressed by its ease of use and accessibility, the TIPA jury had this to say about the Olympus E-620 - the world's smallest and lightest creative digital SLR with built-in image stabilization: "This lightweight 4/3 D-SLR camera features enough technologies to satisfy all novice photographers". In selecting the Olympus E-620 as the "Best D-SLR Entry Level" for 2009, the jury also noted that "beyond the 3200 ISO sensitivity of its Live MOS 12.3 MP sensor, we welcome its autofocus system with 7 points, several artistic filters and the swivelling display which allows the use of Live View from all angles". The new award-winning E-620 sees Olympus chalking up another success in its mission to put advanced digital photography technologies into the hands of ambitious photographers everywhere.
New Key Features
- New 12.3 Megapixel High Speed Live MOS sensor and TruePix III+ image processor. We'd expect this to be the same sensor as appeared in the E-30.
- Sensor-shift image stabilization system with a claimed 4 stop advantage (rather than the 5 stops claimed for the E-3).
- New Autofocus System. The E-620 gets a greatly upgraded AF system compared to the previous entry-level models. Rather than having three AF points, it has seven, the central five of which are cross-type (sensitive both horizontally and vertically).
- The E-620's standard kit lens is the 14-42mm F3.5-5.6, which is capable of imager (contrast detect) autofocus in live view.
- New fully articulated screen. 230,000 pixel multi-angle, 2.7" HyperCrystal III LCD (an improvement over the recent E-30)
- Live View. Similar implementation to other Olympus DSLRs - fairly quick imager (contrast-detect) AF with selected lenses.
- Improved viewfinder. 95% coverage and 0.96x magnification (compared to the similar coverage and 0.92x magnification of the E-4X0 and E-5X0 ranges).
- Wireless Flash. The E-620 allows wireless control of flash units, such as the new Olympus FL-36R and FL-50R, in up to three groups.
- New Power Grip HLD-5. Has room for two BLS-1 batteries, for portrait shots or long periods away from the charger.
- There are a variety of Art Filters, selected from when the mode dial is in the Art/Scn position
